Jascha Heifetz (1901-1987)

Russian American violinist Jascha Heifetz is considered the greatest violinist of all time. He was born in Vilnius, Lithuania (then part of Russia). He gave his first public concert at the age of five and gave his first concerts outside of Russia in 1912. He became an American citizen in 1925.

Heifetz made many world tours and received high acclaim for his technique and for the lyrical quality of his tone. He also made numerous recordings, both as a soloist and in ensemble works, which won three Grammy Awards (1961, 1962, 1964). In 1989 Heifetz was given a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for his accomplishments.

This practice or silent violin was used by Jascha Heifetz to practice finger movement for many years. It was given (and signed by him) to a dear friend who, in turn gave it to me nearly 28 years ago. All questions answered via email. Contact information at the bottom of this page.

$25,000.00 or Best Offer

Dear Alicial,

As someone who has shown an interest in the Heifetz legacy, I wanted to make you aware of this auction of family items, most of which belonged personally to my father, Jascha Heifetz, and are being made available for the first time.

If you know of someone who would be interested in this sale, I'd appreciate it if you could forward this email to them and make them aware of the links below to the Mossgreen site where both a summary catalogue and a full on-line bidding catalogue and auction details are available.

Bidding is open now through the 6th of April.

With best wishes,

Jay Heifetz

Dear Jay
I can add your letter and info on my website which gets approximately half a million hits a month. Also, as I have your fathers practice violin I got from Harry Finer listed on eBay, I can add you info and letter there which should attract some bidders. I hope your auction goes well.

Regards, Alicia
