EXTREMELY RARE LETTER FROM THE QUEEN ELIZABETH THE QUEEN MOTHER

Item 3044 - This 79 year old four page letter written to Lady Salisbury is dated July 27, 1942 is wonderful in that the Queen Mother writes about what one should expect when becoming engaged and thinking of marrying. The letter gives an insight to the morals of the time and the Queen Mother's own values and beliefs. It is hand written on official Buckingham Palace stationary. She writes,

Dearest Lady Salisbury,
It was so kind of you to write about Katherine's engagement, and I would like to send
my very best wishes for great happiness to them both.
It is very hard for Maria being so far away, but it must be a great joy to fee that her
daughter is going to marry someone she has known for three years.
It is so important to have known each other before getting engaged, & each other's
parents as well!
If you would be so kind, the next time you write to Maria, do ask her to let me know
her feelings, and some impressions of her great new work. I am quite certain that she will
do tremendous good, for she has such a wonderful character , & strength of mind &
nobility, that anyone near her must feel the better for it.
I am sorry about Betty's illness - it must have been a great anxiety, & I do wish with all
my heart that she will be better soon.
With my love, and with my heartfelt wishes for a truly united & happy life for Katherine
and Maurice Macmillan,
I am yours very affee, Elizabeth R

As well as being articulate, the Queen Mums hand writing goes back to another time when one was taught the art of proper letter writing. Her hand writing is lovely. This letter is truly a rare find! $2,100.00

Dear _______
Thank you so much for letting me know how Allibar is getting on. Paddy told me the
other day that she is being a real "maiden" but perhaps she is beginning to settle down
now .... He always said she would be awkward to deal with but hopefully your (can't
read) will be just what she needs! I shall be fascinated to see what she looks like when
she comes back, all muscled up and looking like a racehorse. Lets hope she schools will
over the jumps.
(Can't read the name ) and Bridget have been up staying with my grandmother and it
has been great fun seeing them every now and then. They managed to lighten things up a
bit as the weather is continuously atrocious!
Diana sends her love to you both
Yours ever, Charles

STERLING LOCKET GIVEN BY DIANA

SOLD This wonderful sterling, open weave heart locket was given by Princess Diana to the daughter of a friend, Sarah Jane Gaselee who was a bridesmaid in Diana's 1981 wedding to Charles. This Sarah Jane was 11 at the time. She took the message written by Diana, cut it down to just her signature, "Love Diana", folded it accordion style and kept it in the locket for the next 16 years. I have had it for 12 years. It is a precious item in that it was given by Diana but also that Sarah Jane so loved Diana she carried her signature with her for so many years. The heart is in excellent condition, as is the scrap of paper. $20,500.00

pairs of booties.
We are thrilled with our new arrival, but can't get used to the idea of being a father of
two-- it all seems much too grown up somehow!
I do hope all goes well with Jon & please give my love to Irene.
